About Me

I’m Emma Berger — a full-time artist with a love for big ideas and even bigger canvases. I’ve been painting large-scale murals for over a decade, ever since I was 19, and my work now spans illustration, mural painting, and tattooing.

I earned my BFA in Illustration and Communications Design from Pratt Institute, then jumped into the film industry, working with studios like DreamWorks, Laika, Aardman, and Michael Curry Designs. At Laika, I brought entire worlds to life — handcrafting grass, trees, rocks, and root systems from scratch, and making sure rapid-prototype animation faces were ready for their close-up. I even spent some time designing haunted houses (yes, it was just as fun as it sounds).

Even while working in film, I kept creating and selling my own illustrations at markets along the West Coast. In 2020, my mural career really took off — ladders, paint-splattered clothes, and the joy of turning blank walls into colorful, larger-than-life worlds became my everyday. My murals are bold, colorful, and full of personality — from brightening up elementary schools and preschools to transforming restaurant interiors and cozy living rooms.

Two years later, I decided to try my hand at tattooing simply because it sounded like fun — and it turned out I loved it. What started as a curiosity quickly became my main source of income and one of my greatest joys. I love the intimacy of working one-on-one with clients, hearing their stories, and creating art they get to carry with them for life. My tattoo work often lives in the world of black and grey, with surreal, cartoonish twists. People have described my style as somewhere between Miyazaki and Shel Silverstein — whimsical, detailed, and just a little bit mischievous.

Wherever I go, I’m making something — traveling, painting, tattooing, and chasing the next project that makes my imagination light up.
